    “God Mode”

    Enable “God Mode” in Windows Server 2008/R2, Windows 7 and Vista

    When you want to customize your workstation (and sometimes, even your server), you usually turn to "regular" configuration tools such as Control Panel applets, the computer's registry, command line tools and even the computer's local Group Policy. In most cases, using these tools allows you to get the job done and configure your computer the way YOU want it.

    However, there are times where you need to make one small tweak, one small change, and you simply cannot find the correct Control Panel applet to make the change you need.

    Note: While initially discovered for Windows 7, it seems that this tweak works for Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2.

    To enable "God Mode" follow these steps:
    1. Right click on any blank space on your desktop.

    2. Click new from the menu and create a New Folder.

    3. Rename the folder as follow:

    GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

    4. Once the folder has been renamed, the folder icon will

    change too. Now, simply double-click on the GodMode folder.

    Bingo. over 200 separate configuration options, settings and tweaks available to you, all handily located in one folder!

    In fact, when you collapse the different sections of the GodMode folder, it seems that it's identical to what you can find in the Control Panel. However, unlike the Control Panel's different applets, in GodMode you handily see all the hundreds of settings listed in front of you, and you need not have to dig down layers of tabs and different applet views just to find what you're looking for.

    When you perform a search both in this "God Mode" and in the Control Panel, you get similar results, just listed in a different manner.

    I don't create a folder but just add a right click on desktop with registry.
    Actually the right click is on background which in 7 means desktop or any open space in any drive or folder
    the commandline is %SystemRoot%\Explorer.exe shell:::{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

    HTML Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Directory\Background\shell\Administrator Mode]
    @=""
    "Icon"="imageres.dll,-114"
    "Position"="Bottom"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Directory\Background\shell\Administrator Mode\command]
    @=hex(2):25,00,53,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,52,00,6f,00,6f,00,74,00,25,\

    Re: “God Mode”

    Was you doing that from cmd prompt?
    That reg is direct export and it's also found on Ask VG site How to Add Windows 7 “God Mode” Shortcut in My Computer Context Menu? - Tweaking with Vishal
    I do it on background so I can get it anywhere where he has on My Computer

    Also for those that don't know, do not edit reg file's with Wordpad or Word cause they will add invalid characters you can't see. Use plain Notepad, or personally I use Context programmer editor

    I got the same message the first time I tried it. The second time I pasted in the lines and then removed a whole lot of spaces that got in at the end when I pasted the string so I backpspaced to the last character. Now it works fine.

    Re: “God Mode”

    Tried this on my home laptop running Vista Home Premium 64-bit and all it did was send explorer.exe spiraling into a crash loop. Had to launch cmd and rename the folder in order for explorer to stop crashing. I tried deleting the folder from cmd, but that didn't work. What gives? Is this one of those things that only works on certain versions of Windows (Ultimate, Business, etc...) and not home versions? I was looking forward to this tweak, too... Bummer!

    Hey there ITGuy...

    Vista 64 bit has some problems with this it seems, so I don't think you're alone with having run into problems with it.

    FWIW, here's the first page I clicked on while Googling "God Mode Vista": God Mode - Vista 32, 7 32/64 - Technibble Forums

    "DO NOT DO THIS ON VISTA 64. IT WAS WARNED AGAINST DOING IT, NOT SURE WHAT WILL HAPPEN."

    Anyhow, it's a neat trick and I have it on my desktop. I never use it though.
