Post Graphics Card Issue - Random crashes (I think)

    Hi guys,

I recently upgraded my GPU to an ATI Radeon HD 5750 and have been having some issues with it, or perhaps the drivers. I have ensured that the latest drivers are installed and have tried a few solutions suggested on the web, such as cleaning my registry and reinstalling the graphics card drivers but the problem is still there.

The problem is that my graphics seem to stop at random points. If I start playing a game, say Civilization 4; it will run for a few minutes, or an hour or a few seconds, until the screen goes black. If I reboot, then the game will start up again but its incredibly frustrating. The same thing happens on Dragon Age Origins. I have not got my GPU overclocked and I have checked on HW Monitor and the temperature is staying nice and low (between 40-60c). It also occasionally (although not too often) crashes when on VLC media player playing .mkv files, but this is quite rare.

When it first did this, Windows would say "your drivers have been recovered" and it would continue playing the file on VLC player, but it seems as though I just get a black screen now.

Please help! I recently got back into building PCs again and have just realised why I stopped doing it years ago lol! I looked up the "your drivers have been recovered" bug on Google and every suggested fix doesn't seem to work. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Use Driver Sweeper from Guru3d.com in safe mode, to clear the machine of all ATI and if you previously had an NVIDIA card, all NVIDIA files too. (Leave the chipset drivers alone if you have NVIDIA chipset.)

Reboot to normal mode and install the latest driver from here:

Although the issue seemed to be fixed, I am still getting random crashes, although much more rarely. Any ideas?

Before installing the new version, did you uninstall your old catalyst first?

Attach the crash dumps found in your C:\Windows\Minidump.

Yes I uninstalled it first. Since then I have had to install nvidia PhysX (it came with Mass Effect 2), that game seems fine, but video crashed when watching an mkv yesterday.

When I try attaching the file it says I need to be administrator to do it. I am on the only account on the PC and it is Admin, how will I be able to get this file to you on here?

    Sorry I'm a bit of a n00b.

PhysX might be the problem if you're using it with an ATI card. As for attaching .dmp files, zip them and use the advanced reply option to attach the archive with your post.

    Edit:
You can also upload them to a file hosting service and post the link. e.g. windows live skydrive,

Ok well the issue occured before I put Mass Effect 2 on, so not sure about that. It still won't let me zip it, says Access is denied on WinRARs diagnostic message. Also when trying to upload it on Skydrive it says "Sorry there was a problem trying to upload this file. Please try again."

I'm not sure why its doing this as I am the Administrator, is there a way to make the file more accessible?

It was a permission issue (oops) had to edit permissions to Full Control, should be attached now, thanks for your patience!
