    Windows 7 Fails to Install

Had the same problem. Stops at "Windows could not finish configuring your system..." etc. with no information on what the problem is.
Same results on two different computers with more than enough resources for Windows 7 installation.

    could not finish configuring etc

This message is not going to help anyone, but I had the same problem a few moments ago. It just looks to reboot and continually loops back to the same message. Sure hope someone knowledgeable sees this and comes up with a solution.

Just tried to boot up in safe mode, same story.

    Error booting up?
Read that. or just reinstall it. BUT format the drive FIRST

OR: 1. Install it 2 times if the first install fails
    2. Prepare for a long day installing it
    3. Give it a lot of patience
    4. Dont smash your PC!

    windows could not finish etc

Here is a solution to the problem, at least one that worked for me. As per the advice from "Hhduy". I deleted the partition and then created another partition in Fat32. Then I formatted the drive. I then reran windows 7 and let it change the Fat32 to NTFS. It worked, Win7 is up and running. All I have to do now is figure out how to find network adapter drivers that work with Vista (Win7). By the way, I had originally created the NTFS partition with a copy of Win2000, evidently that is not acceptable to Win7. Hope this helps someone.

    Solved "...install fails..."

Let Setup delete any partition on disk and let it create a new partition. This worked great on both computers. (Make sure there is nothing on the disk you want to keep.) Looks like Win7 setup is pretty particular on the type of disk partition it wants to install properly.

Hi, i got the same error, because i realized too late that my partition was a win 2000 one, not an xp one, created with my Norton partition magic 8 bootable dvd... Now, i restored my primary partition(c:\) of windows XP with acronis true image AND even restored the MBR, everything work fine exept PM wont boot anymore... Wich suck because that was what i was used to work with... What in the world could do that??? i only installed and modified this first partition on this disk, that's all... I though rewriting the MBR sould solve the problem but it haven't.

If it's stay that way, i think im never gonna upgrade to anything but XP...

EDIT: And the first time i installed it in a vm and tried to create a partition with it, it was unable to do anything with it with my PM DVD, wich has never fail on me before, the partition was all in yellow, marked as BAD, finally got it to work with the right partition type, but not before i tryed it like pquinn34 on my true computer, wich cause the probleme stated above(not the bad partiton one the PM not booting anymore one).

Microsoft sould really put enphasis on writting USEFULL error message, not a stupid one telling u that it will 'fix' the problem by rebooting, but never do anything to fix it(and kind of a lie)... i mean, cmon, it's should be that hard to give more information/error handling so we know what's really hapenning. Analyse the partition for god sake and warn the user that he havent NTFS 3.1(XP) file system on.

So now im sitting, im front of my computer after a day, and i can't install windows 7 because i cant use PM anymore, and i fear that using the windows Partition magic one will just try to fix errors that aren't really there and really mess my drive up. Great work Bill, keep it up ... Screw everyone's drives...

Edit2: Just got the DVD work back again by using Windows XP CD to format the partition again...

windows could not finish configuring the system - Solved - Sony VGN

I had the same problem installing Windows 7 RC (Sony VGN-FW300 series) and finally solved it, however I changed two things and can't remember which was the key.
    1) I had previously created a blank, NTFS partition with Paragon Partition Manager , and had been trying to use it. One change was that during the Windows 7 setup I Erased that partition and made it Unallocated.
    2) There was an issue of the Windows 7 install DVD (well, actually a USB flash in my case - but same idea). On the one hand i have to take it out at a certain point - because otherwise when the computer boots up Win7 starts all over again from scratch(!) But then it seems to fail without it. So I think i took it out during the first reboot and then put it back in after windows 7 was starting up again.

(sorry a big vague - but when you try a bunch of things with slight variations)

FYI - the Sony came with Vista 64 bit and I was installing Windows 7 32-bit. I used Partition Manager to shrink the original Vista partition and moved it all the way to the end of the drive.

FYI, I haven't yet adjusted installation beyond a pure Windows 7 install - i.e. I haven't tried to load any Sony or manufacturer drivers. I'm not even certain they'll work as Sony may provide only 64-bit drivers. However, the native Windows 7 seems to have installed very fresh drivers for all main components

You were a BIG help. Was trying to install to a partition created and formatted by Paragon's Partition Manager with no luck. Deleted the partition and had setup create and format a new one and it installed without a hitch. Thanks again
