No internet connection from wireless ap despite functional network connection

I've run into a peculiar issue with a laptop I've obtained recently, a Sony Vaio VPCZ112GX. I'm able to connect to my wireless router, an ASUS RT-12 configured as an access point using the stock 1.0.0.6 firmware. However, despite a fully functioning network connection (I can ping other computers on the network successfully), I cannot obtain a stable internet connection using the laptop (both my desktop and netbook connect without issues). I use the qualifier "stable" because on two occassions in the past two weeks I've been able to access the internet for several hours before I lose internet connection again. I don't know what caused those bouts of connectivity, as both times it happened it was upon waking from sleep or hibernation. I've tried both updating and downgrading the drivers for the integrated card (Intel Centrino 6200), resetting the winsock and ipv4/v6 stacks, disabling ipv6 altogether, and finally culminated with a fresh install from the recovery discs. Nothing solved my issues. If anyone knows what the problem is, I'd be grateful if you could aid me!

Plugging my desktop's usb wireless adapter into my laptop with issues allows internet connection, but I'd prefer using the integrated wireless card on my laptop if possible. Any suggestions?

The IP information looks good for the problem laptop and I would assume that since you can ping other network nodes that the driver is working ok, and since another wireless adapter provides a good connection it would seem that your AP is not an issue, with the trouble shooting and diagnostics you've done so far, the only thing that I could find to add which may or may not help follows;

Make sure

Maximum Performance is selected for Wireless Adapter Settings in the Power Options window. Selecting any other option may result in a communication failure. To change the settings, follow these steps:
1 Right-click the power status icon on the taskbar and select Power Options.

2 Click Change plan settings.

3 Click Change advanced power settings.

4 Select the Advanced settings tab.

5 Double-click Wireless Adapter Settings and Power Saving Mode.

6 Select Maximum Performance from the drop-down list both for On battery and Plugged in.

I would actually take one additional step and open device manager, expand network adapaters, right click on the problem wireless adapter, choose properties and under the "Power Management Tab" uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

Unfortunately, those settings didn't change anything. At this point I'm suspecting some sort of incompatibility between my school's network and the built-in wireless card (I've attempted to connect to other routers with the same configuration and encountered the same issues). I'll try replacing the internal card using one off ebay whenever I have the time this summer, and if that doesn't work, just resign myself to an external adapter. Thanks for the help!
