Laptop will not connect to wireless network at work--will connect other places.

Since last Thursday, I haven't been able to get my laptop to connect to the internet at school properly. It worked Wednesday. Now it doesn't. It connects at home just fine.

It is not a router issue. Nearly every computer on campus connects wirelessly.

I had originally thought it was a Windows 7 issue, but my OTHER Win7 laptop connects without any trouble.

I can see the network, but when I connect to it, the computer hangs up on "identifying" and there's no internet access. It seems like my issue is relatively common, and I've tried plenty of the workarounds that I've read on these threads. I've tried disabling and enabling the adapter. I've tried updating drivers.

When I release and the renew my IP, it fails. It says that it is unable to find my DHCP server.

    Anyway, here's my ipconfig /all.

    Hey.

Windows Update sometimes pushes a new driver that messes things up. Try opening the device manager then roll back the wireless driver to previous.

Or you might obtain success by letting Intel's website scan and install all latest drivers from their site. The scanner is at top in blue:

    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/defa...me_downloadctr

    ----

But what it really looks like to me is that the network admin blocked your adapter from access. Maybe because you were intentionally or possibly unintentionally without knowing it, creating issues on the network.

You might have malware. Scan with Malwarebytes. You can change (spoof) your mac address using the device manager, while looking at the network adapter properties, on the advanced tab. Save and reboot. Then try to connect. ;-)

Or bring the issue to the admin of the school's network.

Re: Laptop will not connect to wireless network at work--will connect other places.

    Thanks for the reply.

There's nothing to roll-back to, since the computer is quite new.

One of our techs is supposed to come by today and take a look at it, so here's hoping that works.

If he doesn't come by (or if it doesn't work), I'll try the link you provided when I get home. I had updated drivers the other day, but then did a system restore, hoping I could fix the problem that way. I couldn't.

I think you may be right about the admin blocking my device. I wasn't, as far as I know, doing anything harmful to the network. One of the librarians mentioned that other people with their own devices are having similar trouble. If so, I'm almost positive that one of the admins accidentally blocked us all--or did something without letting us (the teachers) know what was going on. We don't have the most well-managed network infrastructure, unfortunately.

Well, the tech never made it by. I spent some time looking for ways to change my MAC address, but I couldn't find the setting. I guess the intel link is my only hope at this point.

Yeah, it depends on the driver having (giving you) the ability to do so.

In device manager, right click the adapter. Choose properties. Then go to advanced tab. There might be a "network address" field you can enter random letters (A-F) and/or numbers (0-9) in. Hit ok then reboot.

Doesn't look like it's going to be that easy. "Network Address" isn't an entry.

    Update: Maybe.

Nobody at my school knew it, but apparently the district decided to start blocking unrecognized devices when they catch them. Not a terrible idea, actually.

But, I'm still unclear as to why the faculty were never told. Seems like this is a problem that could have been headed off at the pass.

Will report back with confirmation when/if I'm actually able to connect again.

Yeah that's a terrible idea when they didn't give notice to valid users that still need access.

Wow! My brother's wife is a teacher here in a NYC public school and she says they don't even have an IT dept. haha
