can't ping or view other network computers

This laptop can access the internet and ping itself and the gateway, but can't ping other computers on the network. I am not using "HomeGroup" nor do I wish to. I had VMWare Workstation 7 and Comodo Internet Security 5 installed, but have since uninstalled them. I have the windows firewall disabled and all advanced sharing options at the most open settings on both computers. Both are running Win 7 x64 Ultimate. Both have the c drive shared and full permissions for everyone. Both have the same username and password. They do have different computer names and they are in the same workgroup. Both are connected through a wireless connection. The other computer can't see this laptop either. The drivers are the most up-to-date that I could find (the Acer website didn't offer a download for the wireless network card but I found one elsewhere.) The only other thing I can think of is that in the settings of utorrent, there is a button that says, "Install IPV6 Teredo," and I did click that button but I don't know how to undo it.

Here is the output of various command line commands:
    Code:
    C:\Users\80063r>ping 192.168.1.136

Pinging 192.168.1.136 with 32 bytes of data:

Re: can't ping or view other network computers

Either you have the router set to block pings universally or for either machine, or the remote 136 machine has a firewall that is blocking it.

After investigating those 2 possibilities, disable IPv6 in the network properties and disable IP Helper service, reboot.

Re: can't ping or view other network computers

I don't know how to block or unblock pings on the LAN without using a firewall. Windows firewall is completely disabled and there is no other firewall installed. I use DD-WRT firmware on my router and I can't find a setting to block LAN pings, only WAN pings so just for giggles I allowed incoming WAN pings.

I did as you said and unchecked IPv6 in the wireless properties and disabled IP Helper service on both machines, and the problem persists.

On a side note, I did run a port scanner (Super Scan 4) and it found only 192.168.1.1 (the router) and 192.168.1.124 (this computer) by ICMP although the router sees several computers connected.

Re: can't ping or view other network computers

Run this on the local and remote machines. Copy/paste each line to an elevated command prompt, press enter after each, then reboot:

    netsh winsock reset

    netsh int ip reset C:\log.txt

Re: can't ping or view other network computers

I ran those 2 commands on each of the 2 computers and each command completed successfully and stated that a reboot was necessary and I rebooted.

The situation is still the same as before (i.e. "Destination host unreachable.")

Re: can't ping or view other network computers

Sure way to tell what is going on is to install Wireshark and watch the packets, on both machines.

Anyhow, what date does the wireless adapter driver show, in the device manager driver tab, for it.

Re: can't ping or view other network computers

The Atheros AR5007EG (on laptop) has a driver date of 3/31/2010.
The TP-LINK TL-WN821N (on desktop) has a driver date of 7/24/2008.

I installed wireshark on both machines and ran a test capture and was able to capture some data while pinging and refreshing "Network", but I don't know what to do next.

You could attach the logs. I'll see if I can pick up on anything.

Just name them corresponding to each machine...like 124 and 136.

    Here are the logs:

I had to rename them to .txt to allow upload.

edit: I just talked to my friend who's on the same network and he has computers that can see each other but can't see mine.

Re: can't ping or view other network computers

The problem is in the router settings or with the router itself.

Notice in the 124 log, the ARP lines asking who has 192.168.1.136 and there is never a response with that machine's mac address, like it should be.

So, there is a definite problem in that your 124 machine does not even know that 136 is up and running because of this. The router is not telling at all.
