    Re: DNS server not responding?

Hello Matt and welcome to the forum.
It looks to me like your IP addressing scheme is either wrong on your wired network or more likely since you are having trouble with your wireless wrong on your wireless network, it's unlikely that you would have two separate and different working default gateways on the same subnet, so you need to address this either 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.254 is the actual default gateway. It looks like you have two routers involved in handing out DHCP on your network and both think they are the default gateway which is very unlikely.
So if you are cascading two devices, please do so by plugging them together using switch port to switch port to avoid double NAT as well as potential IP addressing conflicts and turn off DHCP on the downstream router and let the upstream router do DHCP and probably DNS too for that matter and let it forward DNS queries to your ISP's name servers for resolution.
    Good luck
    Regards
    Randy

Thanks Randy. Before you posted I did some trouble shooting and ended up solving the issue. I had to configure my wireless device and then have it do something with the physical address of my computer and plugging in the value. I'm not honestly sure what I did, but its working fine now. I appreciate the timely response.

    Re: DNS server not responding?

Good to hear, maybe something like this
Open a command prompt and type
    ipconfig /all
    and hit enter
examine the information pertinent to the problem adapter, specifically the value called "Physical Address) write it down and remove the dashes / hyphens (-). That should leave you with a 12 digit hex value.
    Now type
    ncpa.cpl
into the search or run box and hit enter
Select then right click the problem network adapter and choose properties
Click the "Configure" button near the top
    Select the "Advanced" tab
In the left column (Property: ) select Network Address
In the right column (Value: ) Select the radio button next to the text box that will allow you to enter your MAC address and enter the 12 digit hex value you have determine is correct above
OK your way back out of there and reboot the computer.
See if that helps resolve the issue and post back with any updates.
Haven't actually had to use that one in a while.
So when you do a new ipconfig /all do you still see different default gateways reflected for your wireless versus your wired adapter? Or was that old data that hadn't been subjected to a release and renew yet?

    Re: DNS server not responding?

I have the same problem with the DNS Server not responding. I have tried pretty much everything on this thread and more. I had Mcafee installed, but I uninstalled it already. I am pretty sure that Mcafee isn't the issue because my internet still doesn't work. Can someone please help? I have been stuck for a couple hours.

    Re: DNS server not responding?

    Hi Brittni,

I've already replied to the pm you sent me about this but I'll paste a copy of my reply here so we can continue in the public arena which is potentially most beneficial to other site users. I repled as follows:

First step in analysing connection/dns errors is to check the wireless cofiguration. Go to Programs, Accessories, command prompt and run it. In the command screen enter the command:

    ipconfig /all >desktop\ipcon.txt.

The will place a file called ipcon.txt on your desktop.Post a copy here and we'll check it out for you.

    Regards,
    Pat

    Re: DNS server not responding?

I am having the same issue with a new desktop computer that I just bought. The old one had an ethernet connection that worked fine, but I have only been able to get the new one to work for a couple of hours in the past three days. I've tried plugging the old one back into the same connection and it is now wonky too. Tech support from both the store where I bought it and my ISP have said it is a problem with my router. I have tried rebooting it several times and have checked the TCP/IP settings (v4 are set to obtain addresses automatically; I have disabled v6). I am not running McAfee (but did have Norton preinstalled), am using IE as my browser. I tried booting in safe mode and still have no connection. I also can't seem to connect to the web interface for my router.

I pinged the DHCP server and got a response for all four packets in 2ms. When I pinged the DNS server, the first three requests timed out and the last one received a reply in 18ms. (I have no idea what this means, but saw it in an earlier message.)

Wireless connections work fine for my laptop and my iPad.

Any help that anyone can provide would be much appreciated. Below are the results from the ipconfig /all and from the two pings.

    Thanks!
