DNS server not responding?

Hello I have been dealing with a very similar problem with my new HP Dv7 w/ windows 7 64bit. I actually have excellent wireless connection at home with my router but when I take my computer to work it is extremely SLOW. My buddy has a older model HP and has no problems with our works internet. Again my internet does work but God its slow. I have tried to trouble shot in various ways and was hoping someone on this thread might have a solution. Here is my ipconfig when at work.

Just switched over internet providers, my laptop is having issues. Constantly get limited or no connection, though I have a very strong signal.

I've tried switching the DNS to 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.3 and shut off the ipv6 and all the combinations.

I already have Microsoft Security Essentials and have spybot, but other anti-virus are not present.

Some issues that may cloud the issue, the person switching the station said we had an extremely strong signal in the home that was interfering with new router and its signals. He put it on channel 6 as opposed to 11 and I guess that made the signal issue better.

The new router/modem is an arris tg862. Please help.

Hello I am having the same problem " Your computer appears to be correctly configured but...." . I am able to use one wired broadband connection and am able to connect to net for this one, but for another one which i have recently taken as well its showing the above message. I have no idea at all what to have tried ipconfig/release and renew.still not working. At present option to automatically select DNS settings is selected. Please tell me what to do ,

My internet connection is fine for about 2 hours then I have to manually reset my router (flipping the switch from On to Off to On) then it is fine for a few hours. When the error occurs it says DNS server is not respoding. My settings for configuring the IP/Subnet Mask/Ect. are set to automatic. Is it neccasary to manually input my information form ipconfig/all for a DNS not responding error message every few hours? Maybe a D-Link router issue? Do I possibly have to install a new driver or something? Somewhat lost and frustrated. I can provide my ipconfig/all. I understand some of this data but not all of it. A simple translation would be very helpful. Thank you!

Hey Pat or to whoever can help me out. I read all the thread and follow all the details as close as I can. At first, my laptop would shows that is connected to the internet (wireless) but could not browse at all. So, I changed my DNS server manually and fortunately made it work.
1. However, when I use the Ethernet cable plug from the router to my laptop does not work. I tried to change the DNS server manually and still did not work.
2. Additionally, I tried to set up my roommates laptop the exact way I did on mine and did not work for him.
3. Moreover, I tried the same technique on my PS3 and did not work either.

Hello, I got the same error message and I solved it eventually- although the error message targeted the DNS server, it turned out to be something else. I've read the thread and registered to share how I did it.

Before my router was showing no connection to the internet, the internet was extremely slow.
I did all the ipconfig /dnsflush /registerdns /all /release /renew and trying to "manually set DNS to 192.168.1.1" actions to no avail.
I rebooted and reset the router/computer multiple times. The LAN was working, only not when the LAN cable was plugged into the router.

Now, I found that the way my WAN was configured in the router interface was causing the problem. After router reset, the WAN settings were by default "DHCP Client of fixed IP". My Broadband connection was PPPoE. I changed my WAN settings in the router interface to PPPoE with the username and password provided by my provider and voila! Internets.
Download speed is also good again, but not up to usual standards.

I do have a question though.
Does anyone know why my DNS server appears as fe80::1%12 ?

Thanks to anyone who can solve this mistery.

Check to see if you have "Obtain an IP address automatically" selected and "Use the following DNS server addresses" selected. If this is your configuration then one of the DNS server may be down, although not likely since your other system is working.

Choose both "obtain an IP address automatically" AND "Obtain DNS server address automatically" to see if it solves your problem.

Your computer firewall may be blocking UDP port 53 (DNS)....
