Re: Microsoft running scared from OpenOffice.org
I doubt they are truly fearful of this software. OpenOffice is pretty basic in an office environment itself - where companies will often times rely on BCM (Business Contact Manager) and other server-level tools that come with Microsoft Office. I believe many businesses would sooner stick it out with an older version of Microsoft Office than switch their entire business operation to OpenOffice. As a side note, Microsoft did convert to a MS-XML format which can be deciphered and read openly, instead of using binary files, for all of their Office programs. Therefore anyone could come up with a program to open, and edit Office created documents now. If they are truly, mindfully fearful of OpenOffice, I doubt they would move in this direction. Interoperability will be to their advantage, as they probably realize 10 years from now there are going to be programs that will compete very well with Office, but that Office will still have a certain edge and foundry that you can't find in other software. Much like I would consider ACT! to be a superior CRM software to Office, it also has interoperability with Office - and will work with that program to help businesses track their interactions with their customers.
