    Cannot visit multiple websites

For some reason there are many websites on the Internet that do not load, such as Toshiba.com, and many other sites as well. There are also a number of websites that do not completely work. For example, I frequent the site gamespot.com, and though the side does load, it is very incomplete and not functional at all.

Most of the sites I go on, however, have no problems at all, it is just a percentage of webpages that I want to go on give me a "This webpage is not available" page.

I've tried to find some info on the forums for anyone that has the same issues as I do but I haven't had much luck.

I have tried a number of different things to try and resolve the problem. I have used different web browsers, I have tried different networks, and I have even tried older drivers for my video card in case that was an issue.

There are certain things that I can't install, like Java, because my internet wont allow me to visit that site. My Windows Update doesn't even work anymore. It gives me an error code 8024402F.

I've tried to find some info on the forums for anyone that has the same issues as I do but I haven't had much luck. Any advice you guys could give me would be much appreciated.

    Hi EMLH,
it sounds like you might have your security settings on to high.. What are you actually running security wise?

    Hey kemical,

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

At this point I use AVG for antivirus protection, but besides that, I only have the security features that are offered by Windows 7.

EDIT: I tried turning off the windows firewall to see if that did anything and it still doesn't seem to fix anything. I should probably mention that at first, everything was working fine. I was able to use windows update and most sites worked without a hitch, only about a week after getting Windows 7 did these problems occur.

I think once we get the update running again you'll be able to download those sites as I'm sure your missing some crucial updates..
I'm just checking on something now..

Does your router have a firewall? If so, try disabling it but obviously leave your windows one working..

I have to be honest, I'm not too sure if my router has a firewall or not, and I do not know how to disable it if it does, but I've tried multiple different routers and different internet connections (wireless, cable), I've even tried different internet providers (rogers, and bell). Nothing seems to fix the issue, and the other computers that are on those networks work perfectly fine. I feel like there is something on my computer (or something missing from my computer) that is stopping me from visiting these sites, but I honestly don't know what. I know that I've had issues playing certain games on my computer as well, though I feel that is a separate issue that needs to be addressed later. If you wouldn't mind brainstorming a few more ideas, kemical, I will try and find out if my router has a firewall and try shutting it off.

    So just an update...

I've installed a couple different anti-malware programs and found a couple infected objects that I've now removed. Removing these objects has fixed my windows update problems but not the issues I have with the internet sites. I'm doing all the updates and we will see if that helps me to get any closer to resolving the webpage problems.

Fingers crossed.. There are a few compatibility updates for IE8 and hopefully once you've got those you should be fine..
