mouse and keyboard stopped working in normal mode

While housecleaning I unplugged everything from my computer, dusted, and plugged everything back in, though I probably didn't put all the USB devices in the same order as before. Now my HDMI interface doesn't work, and the mouse and keyboard only work in safe mode. When I boot into normal mode, there's no cursor and no response to keyboard. What could have gone wrong?

Never mind. It was a misbehaving USB drive. When disconnected, everything works now. I have no idea why!
