Question Help with win7 64bit loading problems.

    Hi all,

I don't know if i'm in the right place or whether this problem has been posted before...so here goes...

I shutdown as usual the other day and now today i switch on and win7 is not loading. It comes up with Launch Startup Repair or Start Windows Normally screen. Windows will not start normally it will just give me a split second BSOD and then reboot to the 2 choices again. When i select launch start up repair and the page starts to load but with no choices to choose from just the usual background and nothing else....

Safe mode doesn't load either. Usually the last file to load is the ATIpcie.sys but there is another file now underneath thats called 89062120.sys....then comes up with a very quick blue screen and reboots to the launch startup repair or load windows normally screen.

How do i fix this? the win7 64bit was preinstalled and no disk came with it.

    Thanks

    Craig

Re: Help with win7 64bit loading problems.

You can try using the F8 key to get to the Last known Good configuration option. You could also turn off rebooting for Blue Screens.

A long shot would be to boot to the command prompt and rename the numbered file you show above. I have no idea what it is, but putting a different extension on it would keep it from actually loading. Make sure and check the date, if you find it. Probably be in the Windows\System32\drivers folder.

If you need a Windows 7 install DVD .iso file you could burn, or maybe a Windows 7 recovery CD, you should be able to download them. One of them should at least get you into the recovery system.

Download Windows 7 ISO (Official 32-bit and 64-bit Direct Download Links) « My Digital Life

If you want to download and burn a bootable anti-virus from Microsoft, you might try this..

    What is Windows Defender Offline?

You might also be able to run a chkdsk from the command prompt, if you can get to it.

Pre-installed Windows come with a disk. I called Microsoft and they told me that "in cases of pre-installed Windows you should contact the manufacturer". Of course, this may apply to bigger companies only.

Anyway, generally, you are entitled to a disk. Windows is on a disk, it comes with a disk, period. Buying a Windows computer without a disk, you have actually bought a handicapped version. Depending on legal conditions, I trust you have a right to demand a disk; it also comes with activation codes etc. Like I bought my copy of Windows 7: I have the right to download it 25 times from Microsoft.

Hit your seller. He's obliged to give you the disk.

Re: Help with win7 64bit loading problems.

    Hi Saltgrass,

Thanks for coming back. I have tried the F8 and the result is the same as when i try normally or try to load safe mode as i mentioned in the first post. I download a recovery disk before but when i ran it the result is the same as trying to load the startup repair from the laptop itself...ie background loads but no menu.

If i could get into chkdsk then it would be ok but i can't as i have tried to load safe mode and safe mode with command prompt.

The link you gave for the anti-virus from microsoft directs me to eset anti-virus...i'll give that a shot on the 64bit version and the offline windows defender.

I'll let you know what the results are. Thanks.

Re: Help with win7 64bit loading problems.

    Saltgrass,

Starting the offline windows defender at the moment...although i think it's stopped working... i put the usb in and it said windows is loading files and the scroll bar below it was going accross, it reached the end and started again although this time it has stopped or is this supposed to do that?

update: i rebooted again and its come up with a windows defender offline blue box and a scan bar going from left to right but the light on the USB has gone off... so i take that it is automatically started scanning?

Re: Help with win7 64bit loading problems.

I would start with the retailer, that's sort of the "line of command". I started to be in doubt about what I wrote, but eMachines Support, eMachines Support - Answers, E-Mail, Chat - How do I restore my computer using the eRecovery Management program outside of Windows? states, quote:

"Select models, with Microsoft Windows, have the ability to have the Operating System reinstalled from a hidden partition built into the computer."
    --------
"Note: If your computer does not have an internal optical disc drive, an external optical disc drive will be required in order to recover the Operating System using eMachines Recovery Media.
    --------
    3. Press the CD-ROM drive eject button and insert the disc labeled System CD.

Thus, you either have the hidden partition OR you should have the disk. Please check which one is your case.

    Hi Titanic,

There is no disk...so this must have a hidden partition.

I did click your link and tried the option 1 with the hidden partition...hitting alt and f10...looked like it was going to work but it just come up please wait blah blah....but nothing loads. i leave it like this for ages but it didn't load up.

I'm not a big fan of E-machines. That said... IF, you can't do a System Recovery using the Recovery Partition then, get a copy (disc) of Windows7 (same flavour as what was in the computer. & install it from scratch. Use the Key that's on your computer. (You can even borrow a Win7 disc) Use MSE for security. OR If, it's still under warranty, start w/ the retailer.

    Cheers,
    Drew
