no control panel

hi all, ive just installed the latest vista update (27/08). however after restarting my computer i now cannot get access to my control panel. I try to open it, and it opens the windowm but after 2 seconds i get the error message 'windows explorer has stopped working'. then explorer restarts an i have to start again. ive tried running system restore back to when i installed the update but im still getting the same problem. any ideas?
im running vista home premium
2gb ram
amd athlon 64 x2 tk-53 1.7ghz
200gb hdd

Boot up to "Last known good configuration" by hitting F8 at bios and uninstall the update. Then set your boot sequence to cd first boot off your Vista dvd and run the "Repair" option.
